Talk for Grammar – bringing grammar to life
Course Overview:
Anyone who has looked at the Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (GPS) papers since 2016 will know that, unfortunately, the naming of parts (and some of them very obscure) is gaining ground and additional terminology has been added. This course is designed to help teachers confidently rise to this challenge while integrating the grammar into model texts and activities that engage the children. In addition, we will visit classrooms and observe these strategies in action at Warren Road, an ‘Outstanding’ school and Talk for Writing Training Centre.

The teaching of poetry and short-burst writing sits at the very heart of a rich and imaginative English curriculum. It teaches children to consider the purpose of their writing, identifying language and writerly tools that establish a desired mood or effect. It also connects a child’s understanding of literature to their own written compositions, training them to raid their reading for writerly tricks and techniques.
